3 Arrested For Drug Possession In Concord Police Chase

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Three men were arrested for drugs and evading arrest after leading police on a chase through Concord early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to reports of an argument that broke out at a party in the 3100 block of Claudia Drive at 1:15 a.m., according to Concord police.

Witnesses said one of the men involved in the argument had a gun, police said.

Arriving officers saw three men drive off in an SUV and tried to stop the vehicle on N. Sixth Street at Port Chicago Highway, police said.

A passenger got out of the vehicle and started running on a trail near the Bay Area Rapid Transit tracks, police said.

The man was allegedly armed with a handgun, and a pursuing officer fired several gunshots in self-defense, police said.

No one was injured, and the suspect - later identified as Alonzo Hernandez, 19, of Concord—was taken into custody.

The SUV yielded to police after driving on to state Highway 4. Concord residents Kevin Torres, 19, and Daniel Griego, also 19, were taken into custody.

A backpack containing marijuana packaged for sale was allegedly thrown from the SUV during the pursuit.

Hernandez was arrested for delaying or obstructing an officer, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a loaded gun, and participating in a criminal street gang.

Torres was arrested for possession of marijuana for sale, delaying an officer and probation violation.

Griego was arrested for felony evading arrest, driver permitting a gun in a vehicle, possession of marijuana for sale and violating parole.
