3-Alarm Fire Burns House Near San Jose State University
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Firefighters were at the scene of a three-alarm house fire near San Jose State University Monday morning, a fire spokesman said. The fire was one of three separate fires burning in San Jose Monday morning.
A passerby called the fire department around 7 a.m. to report seeing flames at a two-story Victorian home in the 400 block of South Fifth Street, San Jose fire Capt. Scott Kouns said.
Sixty-five firefighters responded, and had the blaze mostly controlled as of 7:40 a.m.
Kouns said the neighborhood around Fifth and East William streets was shut down, and advised motorists to avoid the area.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Earlier Monday, firefighters were called to a two-alarm blaze at a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Following the fire near San Jose State, a one-alarm fire was reported at a single-story family home on city's west side.
"Any time we have multiple alarms like this we have a lot of people that we try to put on a specific incident so that we can get there quick, be aggressive, we can go in there and fight the fire, whatever we have to do to mitigate whatever's happening," acknowledged San Jose Fire Department Captain Scott Kouns, "yeah, it stretches us really thin."
No injuries have been reported in any of the fires, and as far as officials know, they are in no way related.
