2nd Oakland Kidnapping Suspect Turns Himself In
OAKLAND (BCN) -- A second man suspected of kidnapping a 25-year-old woman earlier this month turned himself in to police Thursday morning, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.
The woman was chased and beaten by two men on Aileen Street the night of Feb. 5, Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said.
She checked into a hospital for medical treatment after escaping from her captors, and police began searching for the suspects.
The first suspect, Larry Wilson Jr., 44, was arrested on Thursday and has been charged with kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, police said. He was in possession of a gun at the time of his arrest, Joshi said.
Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the second suspect, 31-year-old Jerry Williams, surrendered to authorities and was arrested, Joshi said. He is being held on a felony kidnapping charge.
"One of Williams' relatives called the station early this morning and told us that, because of all the media attention, he wanted to surrender himself to police," Joshi said.
Williams and Wilson are believed to have been involved in other, similar incidents involving kidnapping and assault, Joshi said.
Joshi said the suspects were acquainted with the victim, but declined to specify the nature of their relationship.
