2nd Death At UC Berkeley Brings Added Concern About Drinking On College Campuses
BERKELEY (KCBS) – A student who died last weekend at the University of California, Berkeley has been identified as a 20-year-old from San Ramon, and officials said alcohol may have played a role in his death.
Apoorve Agarwal, a Berkeley student, was found early on the morning of December 20 on Piedmont Avenue, a few blocks away from where a UC Davis student died in November.

Alcohol may have played a role in both student's deaths. Berkeley police Lt. Ed Spiller said drinking on college campuses is a nationwide problem.
"Young kids, a lot of times it's their first time away from home," Spiller said. "It's their first time experimenting with alcohol and tragedies do occur."
University Health Services Tang Center sponsors PartySafe@Cal to try and stop excessive drinking. "It's our goal that nobody should be over 0.15 blood alcohol level, at the point where vomiting usually occurs, balance and movement are severely impaired," said Coordinator Karen Hughes. "At this level, it's actually the equivalent of having a half a pint of whiskey circulating in your blood system."
Agarwal was a junior at UC Berkeley and was pursuing a double major in applied mathematics and economics, that according to a biography posted on a website for Law in Practice, a student-run organization for people interested in law.
