29-Year-Old Hayward Woman Missing For More Than A Week
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- The family of a missing Hayward woman is putting up fliers at BART stations and streets all over the Bay Area after the 29-year-old disappeared last week.
Hayward police Sgt. Eric Krimm said Samantha Tuia was reported missing by her family last Wednesday.
Krimm said family members told police Tuia said she was going to work, but Tuia is unemployed.
Police said there is no indication of foul play and that Tuia has no history of going missing.
Tuia has no phone or car, and family members have told police there is nowhere outside of Hayward she would try to go, Krimm said.
Tuia's cousin Monalisa Billy said her family last saw Tuia Feb. 19 when she left the family's home on Havana Avenue around noon for what relatives presumed was an afternoon walk around the neighborhood.
Billy said Tuia, who has a young daughter and depends on family members financially, often walked to a nearby corner store.
Billy said Tuia wouldn't know how to take BART as she has never traveled the transit system by herself.
The family is concerned someone is taking advantage of Tuia who is often too trustworthy and easily manipulated, and has a "childlike" demeanor and intellect.
Police said her family believes she has an undiagnosed mental condition.
"She's never been away from family," Billy said. "She's never been alone."
Billy said relatives from around the Bay Area are working together to spread the word about Tuia's disappearance.
Tuia is described as a Samoan woman standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds with a thick and heavy build and short black hair often worn in a bun.
She was last seen wearing a white shirt, jeans, black shoes, and a gray hooded sweater with a red jacket over the sweater.
