25 Arrested In Drug Crackdown Near San Francisco Schools

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A recent crackdown aimed at curtailing drug sales and violent crime around schools in San Francisco's Bayview, Mission and Tenderloin neighborhoods netted 25 arrests, police said.

Over a two-week period that began on Aug. 20, San Francisco police conducted seven "buy bust" operations in the three districts as part of "Operation Safe Schools."

The 25 people were arrested for narcotics sales to a police officer. Ten of those violations occurred within 1,000 feet of a school, enabling the district attorney's office to add school-zone enhancements to the charges that could mean longer sentences for the perpetrators, police said.
