21-Year-Old Shot Dead In North Richmond
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in North Richmond on Tuesday night, a Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman said.
Ervin Coley III, of North Richmond, was wounded in a shooting in the area of Third Street and Grove Avenue around 11 p.m.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the neighborhood after the Richmond Police Department's ShotSpotter system detected gunfire there, but they didn't find any victims.
However, the sheriff's office also received a call reporting that someone had been shot, so deputies began calling local hospitals to ask if any shooting victims had turned up, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
About 15 minutes later, Coley showed up at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, Lee said. He was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators don't yet have any leads in the case and have not identified any suspects, Lee said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the sheriff's investigations division at (925) 313-2600.
