2 San Jose Schools Briefly Locked Down After Gun Stolen From Home
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Two schools in San Jose were briefly locked down Thursday after a burglary in which a gun was stolen from a nearby home, police said.
San Jose police placed Oak Grove High School, at 285 Blossom Hill Road, and George Miner Elementary School, a K-6 school at 5629 Lean Ave., on lockdown as a precaution, Officer Albert Morales said.
The lockdown started around noon and lasted until about 1 p.m., an employee at the high school said.
In the burglary, the suspects forced their way into a home in the 5600 block of Herma Street and took the loaded firearm, Morales said.
Since the burglary occurred in the vicinity of the two schools, police decided to put both on lockdown to protect students and staff, Morales said.
The firearm was later found in the backyard of the burglarized residence and police lifted the lockdown, Morales said.
No one was injured and police are still trying to locate the burglars.
