2 San Carlos Homes Hit By Suspected 'Door-Knock' Burglars
SAN CARLOS (CBS SF) -- The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating two daytime burglaries that occurred at homes in San Carlos on Monday.
One burglary was at a home in the 900 block of Rosewood Avenue, and the second happened in the 1900 block of Howard Avenue, according to the sheriff's office. Both burglaries occurred between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
A resident near the Rosewood Avenue property told deputies that a white SUV had been seen driving slowly up and down the street.
Earlier that morning, two men and a woman in a white SUV were seen stopping at a residence near Howard and Cordilleras avenues, according to the sheriff's office.
An alert neighbor saw a woman get out of the vehicle and go to the front door of the home, the sheriff's office said. The neighbor called 911 and went outside to get a description of the suspect.
When the woman saw the neighbor on the phone, she ran back to the SUV and got in, and the car sped off heading south on Cordilleras, investigators said.
The sheriff's office renewed a warning to residents to be on the lookout for "door-knock" burglars who approach homes, knock on doors and attempt a burglary if no one answers.
Door-knock burglaries have been on the rise in recent months, and residents are asked to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
