2 Pittsburg College Alums To Face Off In Super Bowl
PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- While much of the Bay Area is recovering from the San Francisco 49ers' weekend loss, students and faculty at one East Bay college are waiting to see two alumni face off on the field Super Bowl Sunday.
New York Giants defensive lineman Dave Tollefson and New England Patriots defensive back Sterling Moore both got their start in football at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg over the past decade, according to a school spokeswoman.
Van Boschetti, who coached both athletes during their time playing for LMC, recalled the pair's short-lived careers on the college's team.
"These were young men who had great passion and took it as far as they could. Dave Tollefson was just a young kid but played really hard," he said in a statement. "Sterling played for us only one year...we were so disappointed to see him leave, but he did an outstanding job for us and we knew that his potential was great."
Tollefson, who joined the victorious Giants in Super Bowl XLII, donned the college's jersey in 1999 and 2000 before moving on to play for Northwest Missouri State University, according to the statement.
Sterling, who started his NFL career with the Patriots last fall, played for LMC in 2007, then joined the team at Laney College in Oakland and later, at Southern Methodist University.
