2 Masked Men Rob Los Gatos Jewelry Store
LOS GATOS (CBS SF) -- Masked robbers with guns stole merchandise from a Los Gatos jewelry store Tuesday afternoon, Los Gatos police said.
The robbers entered Blacy's Fine Jewelers at 51 University Ave. around 12:10 p.m., police said.
The two men held up employees at gunpoint with black semi-automatic pistols and demanded jewelry. Surveillance video released by police showed one masked robber smashing and emptying glass cases.
After they took an undisclosed amount of jewelry, the pair fled in a car on University Avenue described by witnesses as a gray Volkswagen Jetta with North Carolina license plates.
Police found a car matching that description parked in a lot on Miles Avenue, about four blocks from the jeweler, a few minutes after the robbery.
The car was determined to have been stolen, and the license plate had been stolen from another vehicle. Some jewelry was located there that was determined to have been from the robbery.
The place where the car was found was the site of the town's public sandbagging station and is near the Los Gatos Creek trail. Police are asking anyone who was on the trail or in the parking lot at around 12:10 p.m. to contact investigators.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police Sgt. Mike D'Antonio at (408) 827-3219 or (408) 354-8600 after business hours.
