2 Killed Sunday Morning In Separate Solo Crashes On I-80 In Fairfield
FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- One person died Sunday morning in a solo vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield, not far from the location of an earlier fatality, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness called officers around 8 a.m. to report a gold PT Cruiser had crashed into a tree and no one was moving inside the vehicle, according to the CHP.
Officers responded to the westbound lanes of Highway 80 and found the vehicle on McGary Road near Red Top Road, CHP officers said.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.
About an hour earlier, officers responded to another fatal car crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 80 just west of Red Top Road, where another person was pronounced dead at the scene, Bartlett said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 7:10 a.m. for the right lane of eastbound Highway 80 and as of around 9:10 a.m., it was still in effect. CHP officers also closed McGary Road at Red Top Road in both directions, Bartlett said.
