2 Fires Break Out In Oakland Apartment Unit
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland fire officials are investigating why two fires broke out in the same apartment unit in less than four hours Friday, a fire spokesman said.
A firefighter who sustained second-degree burns while helping to battle the first blaze on the top floor of a three-story apartment building at 273 MacArthur Blvd, near Interstate 580, was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Battalion Chief Adrian Sheppard.
However, the firefighter has been taken off duty because he needs time to recover from his injuries, Sheppard said.
He said the first blaze was reported at 10:28 a.m. and was controlled at 10:54 a.m.
The second blaze, which broke out in a different room in the same third-floor unit, was reported at 2:13 p.m. and was controlled at 2:34 p.m., Sheppard said.
No residents were injured in the two fires, according to Sheppard.
He said the person who lives in the unit where the fires occurred has been provided housing by the American Red Cross.
There is no damage estimate yet, Sheppard said.
