2 Bodies Found In Burning Van On Santa Clara County Highway
GILROY (CBS / AP / BCN) -- Two bodies were found inside a burning van along the side of eastbound state Highway 152 in Santa Clara County on Monday, authorities said.
Fire crews putting out the vehicle fire discovered the bodies around 4 a.m., Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Sung said.
He indicated that there were no signs that the van was involved in a crash that caused the blaze. As a result, investigators were treating the deaths as suspicious.
Cal Fire responded around 3:30 a.m. to a report of a burning van parked in a turnout off of Highway 152, about a mile west of the Merced County line. The flames had also ignited a small vegetation fire.
It was after firefighters extinguished the blaze that they found the bodies in the van, Sung said.
