During an investigation into the fatal shooting, San Jose residents Fidadelfo Silva Ortiz, 17, and Daniel Alejandro Reyes, 23, were identified as suspects, according to police.

The San Jose Police Department's Covert Response Unit located and arrested the suspects within weeks of the homicide.

Reyes was arrested on May 19 in Tracy and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Ortiz was arrested in Oakdale on May 23 and booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall, according to police.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office plans to prosecute Ortiz as an adult, according to police.

Officers said no known link between the suspects and the victim has been determined.

Lam, a bus driver, provided the sole source of income for his family, which includes his wife and two boys ages 4 and 7, one of whom has severe autism, according to San Jose police Officer Huan Nguyen.

Once Nguyen and other San Jose police officers met Lam's family and learned of their plight, they decided to take action, Nguyen said.

A fundraiser page at www.youcaring.com was set up by Nguyen shortly after the shooting with the original goal of raising $10,000.

Sunday, the donations to Lam's family reached over $104,000.

Nguyen said the money goes directly to Lam's family to help with childcare and other services.

He said Lam's wife speaks only a little English and has no family in the U.S.

"It's heartbreaking," Nguyen said. "I'm trying to raise as much money as I can so it can go straight to her and she can help raise the kids."

Anyone wishing to donate to Lam's family can visit http://youcaring.com/sanjose15homicide or send checks to any Wells Fargo branch under the account number 1440267027.
