2 Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase In Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (BCN) - Two men were arrested in Santa Rosa on Sunday night following a high-speed police pursuit.
The pursuit occurred at about 9:25 p.m. in the area of Stony Point Road and West 3rd Street, according to police.
An officer who was patrolling the area noticed a vehicle driving in the dark without its headlights, so he pulled up behind the car as it approached a red light at the intersection.
The driver of the vehicle, however, quickly accelerated and made a left turn onto eastbound West 3rd Street, passing through a red light and driving into oncoming traffic, according to police.
The officer pursued the vehicle as it continued going east at a high rate of speed, ran a second red light and narrowly missed a vehicle going north, according to police.
Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle as he approached railroad tracks near Railroad Square and collided into a parking meter along the sidewalk.
The driver and two passengers immediately exited the vehicle and started running away. The officer ran after them and finally caught up with the driver and one of the passengers in the parking lot of a Chevy's restaurant.
He arrested both without incident, but the second passenger fled and could not be located.
The driver was identified as Daniel Hernandez, 27, and the passenger was identified as Jose Cuevas, 32. Both are from Santa Rosa.
Hernandez sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to police. Cuevas was not injured.
Hernandez was arrested on charges of felony evasion of a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest and two counts of probation violation. Cuevas was arrested for resisting arrest.
