$19 Million Approved For BART Extension To Antioch
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) - The Metropolitan Transportation Commission approved the allocation of $19 million in bridge toll funds Wednesday for the Bay Area Rapid Transit extension project in east Contra Costa County, MTC spokesman John Goodwin said.
Construction on the $462 million project began in October and is being done in conjunction with a project to widen state Highway 4. The tracks for the BART extension, known as eBART, will be installed in the highway's median.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
The 10-mile extension will take passengers from the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station to Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch with a station in between at Railroad Avenue in Pittsburg, Goodwin said.
It is scheduled to be open to the public in 2015.
"This is a good project, no question, especially given the growth in east county," Goodwin said.
