17,000 Stanford Fans Flock to Phoenix for Fiesta Bowl
GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS/AP) - Oklahoma State and Stanford will not get a chance to play for a national championship. Instead, they will play in what could be the most exciting bowl of the season: The Fiesta Bowl.
With two of the nation's best teams, explosive offenses and prolific quarterbacks, the third-ranked Cowboys and fourth-ranked Cardinal figure to put on quite a show at University of Phoenix Stadium on Monday night.
The teams' quarterbacks will take center stage in their final games.
Stanford's Andrew Luck is a two-time runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and the projected No. 1 overall NFL draft pick.
Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden is no slouch, either, a former minor league baseball player who can make all the throws.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
It's the type of game college football fans say they wait all season for.
And, some Cardinal fans even suggested a Stanford win would elevate the entire conference's status.
According to Stanford, more than 17,000 of its fans bought ticket for this year's bowl game.
