Police, Federal Agents Raid 32 Santa Rosa Homes In Major Marijuana Bust
SANTA ROSA (CBS/AP) -- Authorities arrested 13 people and raided more than two dozen homes in a major marijuana bust in a residential Santa Rosa neighborhood Thursday morning.
150 law enforcement officers descended on the area on Wednesday morning, ordering residents to leave before rushing into 32 homes and uprooting backyard marijuana plants. Participating agencies included the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Sonoma County Sheriff's Lt. Dennis O'Leary said more than 300 plants were seized. The thirteen people who were arrested were suspected of a variety of drug and weapons charges.
Authorities suspected gang involvement with at least some of the gardens. O'Leary said they moved in after a recent complaint about marijuana plants in the neighborhood—some of which were clearly visible from the street.
