14-Year-Old San Francisco Student Stabbed To Death In Mission District
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A high school freshman was stabbed to death Tuesday night in San Francisco's Mission District over what his family said may have been an dispute over social media.
14-year-old Rashawn Williams was stabbed near a corner store at 26th and Folsom streets at about 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. He later died at San Francisco General Hospital.
His family said an issue on social media may have played a role in the stabbing, although San Francisco police have not provided details. No arrests have been made in the case.
Students at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Wednesday were informed of Williams' death by their teachers during first period class.
The school's assistant principal for student life, Christine Buell, said counselors are being made available to members of the Sacred Heart Cathedral community, and a prayer service was scheduled after school on Wednesday.
Williams was a member of the freshman football team. His cousin and Sacred Heart schoolmate Jamar Williams said his entire family is devastated. "My coach came to my house last night and then we went to the hospital, but my teammates got me," he said.
Sacred Heart Principal Gary Cannon expressed his condolences as he and coaches addressed the football team. "We prayed some together. We talked about how they could navigate and support one another," Cannon said. "How some people might have been close to this young man, and others were just getting to know him.
