Hundreds Mourn Sikh Man Gunned Down In Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Hundreds of people attended the funeral for a Sacramento-area man who was gunned down as he took an afternoon stroll last week.
The Sacramento Bee reports that several hundred mourners showed up at a Sacramento funeral home on Saturday to pay their last respects to Surinder Singh.
The 65-year-old Singh was killed and a friend, 78-year-old Gurmej Atwal, was critically wounded when both men were shot as they walked through a neighborhood in Elk Grove on March 4.
Police are investigating the shooting as a possible hate crime potentially linked to the men's appearance. Both men were Sikhs and wore turbans and sported long beards.
No arrests have been made, but the reward for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in the case has surpassed $42,000.
