10 Of The Ugliest Uniforms In The History Of Professional Sports

Many sports uniforms are considered classics, from the New York Yankees pinstripes to the green and gold of the Green Bay Packers, or the simple, but classic logos featured on the hockey sweaters of the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins.

But with the growing popularity of jerseys amongst fans, manufacturers are moving away from just the normal home and away jerseys, producing jerseys for seemingly every occasion. While many of these new looks are spinoffs on classic franchise uniforms [throwbacks], others are considered an eyesore at best.

Those are the ones we're focusing on with our list of the 10 ugliest jerseys in professional sports.

10. San Diego Padres Brown Road Uniform

Brown uniforms in general can be tough to pull off. But the Padres road uniforms in the late 70's and early 80's might take the cake, a mix of brown, orange and yellow that would be hard to miss.

9. Toronto Raptors Road Uniform

These purple beauties not only had an odd color scheme, but also a logo of a dinosaur playing basketball. And no, the dinosaur did not look like Barney.

8. Pittsburgh Pirates Alternate Uniform

Many Pirates fans are probably glad these uniforms only lasted one year. The combination of the bright red with the short-sleeve t-shirt look mixed with the angry pirate logo all made for a tough sight to see.

7. Green Bay Packers Throwback Jersey

The blue throwback uniforms the Packers have worn in recent years is seemingly simple in design, but an odd mix of colors. From the blue background to the bright yellow logo and the brown helmet, for many, it just doesn't quite fit the eye.

6. Nashville Predators Third Jersey

This jersey was introduced in 2001 and along with the new logo, perhaps the most dominant feature is the "interesting" mustard yellow color.

5. Houston Astros "Rainbow" Jersey

Perhaps one of the most original uniform ideas, the jerseys were worn both at home and on the road, and featured a white background with a solid block of red, orange and yellow stripes from the chest down.

4. New York Islanders Fisherman Jersey

The team unveiled the jerseys in the mid-to-late 90's and along with the strange color scheme, they were mocked for the logo's resemblance to the Gorton's Fisherman.

3. Chicago White Sox Shorts

It was back in 1976 when the Chicago White Sox unveiled a rather unique uniform - a baseball jersey that included shorts rather than pants.  It was a doubleheader at Comiskey Park and the idea only lasted one game, as the players rebelled.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers Throwback Jersey

These striped jerseys were a bit like a mixture of a bumblebee and tiger.  Along with the color scheme and stripes, the blocky numbers were also unusual.  And then there were the matching striped socks.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Home Uniforms

Creamsicle would be a good way to describe the Bucs uniforms, which looked very much liked the orange-colored popsicles.
