Driver Critically Hurt In Oakland Interstate 580 Shooting
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A shooting late Sunday night along Interstate 580 in Oakland left one person in critical condition and prompted the temporary closure of a stretch of highway, authorities said.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said the victim was driving east on Highway 580 at about 10:50 p.m. when another vehicle pulled up next to him and someone inside shot into his car, police spokeswoman said.
KCBS' Jeffrey Schaub Reports:
Nearby officers heard the gunfire and headed toward the sound, and were flagged down by a passenger from the victim's car, Watson said.
The passenger was unharmed, and the victim was taken to a hospital.
Highway 580 was shut down for about three hours while Oakland police investigated the shooting, California Highway Patrol Sgt. William Bradshaw said.
A description of the suspect was unavailable.
