1 Killed in Four-Car Pileup Near Oakland Coliseum
OAKLAND (CBS 5 / BCN) -- One person was killed in a collision early Friday morning on Interstate Highway 880 that closed an on-ramp near the Oakland Coliseum for more than an hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said the driver was going 90 m.p.h. and not wearing a seatbelt.
The CHP received a report of the crash at 1:59 a.m., and officers responded to northbound I-880 just north of the 66th Avenue on-ramp, which authorities subsequently closed, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash, but as of 5:45 a.m., no information was available regarding possible injuries for the other drivers involved.
Oakland police assisted with traffic control in the area, and the Alameda County coroner's bureau also reported to the scene, Caggiano said.
The 66th Avenue on-ramp was reopened at about 3:30 a.m.
