Hospitalized Driver In E. Palo Alto Fatal Crash To Be Arrested For DUI
EAST PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A 25-year-old woman who crashed her car in East Palo Alto Friday night, killing her 22-year-old passenger, will be arrested when she is released from the hospital, police said.
The woman's identity will be released upon her arrest, according to police. She is suspected of homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and evading police.
Officers allegedly saw the woman driving recklessly at Pulgas Avenue and Camellia Drive at around 10:30 p.m.
Police said the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car would not yield. It continued to speed in what appeared to be an attempt to evade the police.
A short chase ensued, which ended when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Pulgas Avenue and East Bayshore Road, police said.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Her passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
