1 Dead In Fiery Big Rig Crash On Vallejo I-80 Off-Ramp

VALLEJO (CBS 5 / BCN) - One person was killed in a big-rig crash in Vallejo on Monday morning.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Page said the crash occurred as the driver of a big-rig hauling dirt or gravel exited westbound I-80 at Columbus Parkway, then drove through a stop sign and failed to negotiate a curve, Page said.

The big-rig left the roadway, struck a concrete abutment on the bridge that carries I-80 traffic over Columbus Parkway and caught fire, Page said.

The big-rig's driver was killed in the crash, Page said. No other vehicles were involved.

The off-ramps to Columbus Parkway from eastbound state Highway 37 and westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Vallejo were closed until midday because of the crash.
