1 Dead After Hit-And-Run Driver Causes 3 Hayward Crashes
HAYWARD (BCN) -- A driver involved in two hit-and-run collisions caused a third and fatal crash in Hayward Saturday night, according to police.
A silver Toyota Tundra, occupied by two Hayward residents, traveling southbound on Hesperian Boulevard was rear-ended by a speeding black Toyota Land Cruiser at 7:46 p.m. just south of the Arf Avenue intersection, police reported.
The force of the collision caused the Tundra driver to lose control of the vehicle and strike a light pole in the center median, police said.
The Land Cruiser driver also lost control and hit a tree on the center median.
The Tundra's passenger, a 38-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Eden Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Land Cruiser suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
During the initial investigation, police discovered that the Land Cruiser driver was involved in two hit-and-run accidents near Hesperian Boulevard and Tennyson Road minutes before the collision with the Tundra.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in all three collisions, according to police.
