1 Dead, 2 Injured After Fiery Brentwood Crash
BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) - A three-car collision near Brentwood Monday afternoon caused a car to burst into flames and left one man dead and two other people hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision on Vasco Road south of Camino Diablo Road was reported at 1:48 p.m.
A 21-year-old Oakley resident was driving a 1999 Subaru Outback south on Vasco Road when he lost control and veered into the northbound lanes, the CHP said.
He struck a 1998 Mercedes head-on, causing major injuries to the driver and passenger, a man and woman, both 67-year-old residents of San Ramon.
The Outback then swerved back into the southbound lanes and struck a third vehicle, a Pontiac Trans Am driven by a 20-year-old woman from Watsonville.
The Outback then burst into flames.
The 67-year-old man who had been driving the Mercedes was killed in the crash, and the passenger was transported to John Muir Hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Outback suffered major injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The fatality victim's name has not yet been released. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the collision, the CHP said.
Vasco Road was closed until shortly after 5 p.m. while CHP officers investigated.
