1 Dead, 2 Injured While Fleeing Sheriff's Deputy In Clayton
CLAYTON (CBS SF) - One person was been killed and two others suffered major injuries in a crash of a vehicle that was apparently trying to evade a sheriff's deputy just outside of Clayton Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 8:15 a.m., a car was being pursued by a Contra Costa County sheriff's patrol vehicle when it crashed into a tree located near a trailer park on Marsh Creek Road near Clayton, CHP Officer Guillermo Garcia said.
One of the occupants inside the car was killed in the crash, while two others were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
The patrol car did not crash and no sheriff's personnel were injured, the officer said.
Garcia said he did not know what prompted the pursuit.
Officials from the sheriff's office were not immediately available to comment on the case.
