The San Francisco 49ers are having a forgettable season this year, losers of 11 straight games. As the team prepares to host the New York Jets this Sunday, though, there is some good news for the team. Wide receiver Torrey Smith was announced as the Niners' nominee for the 2016 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, annually given to the NFL player best exemplifying a commitment to philanthropy and community involvement.
After playing on Monday Night Football in Week 13, the New York Jets will travel to San Francisco take on the 49ers at Levi's Stadium in Week 14. That means the Jets will be on short rest, while the 49ers have an extra day to prepare for their guests. San Francisco has an 11-game losing streak, and this may be the team's last chance for a second win in 2016.
