Sacramento Public Library Foundation's annual Authors on the Move gala benefitting the Library's Summer Reading Program
Sacramento Public Library Foundation's annual Authors on the Move gala benefitting the Library's Summer Reading Program was held at the Hyatt Regency on March 14, 2015 Mistress of Ceremonies and host for Capital Public Radio's Insight segment Beth Ruyak came as Lemony Snicket's Violet (or was it Peter Pan's Tinkerebell?) and kept the room happily moving through a lively evening of authors who circulated to tables, an auction offering additional author experiences, and a well-received keynote address. "The food was amazing and Daniel Handler was hysterical," praised supporter Julie Woodside. Daniel Handler, a.k.a. Lemony Snicket, kept guests laughing with his extraordinary intelligence and quick wit. In addition to our keynote, authors from around the State gave our audiences a more personalized literacy experience. Again, this year's Author's Selection Committee, led by Kathy Les, did an incredible job of bringing an amazing group of authors to Authors on the Move. Auctioneer Pat Hume, a.k.a. Captain Hook, kept bidders engaged and, during this year's Summer Reading paddle raise, helped garner $55,000 dollars of support for the Library's Summer Reading Program. Reversing the summer slide in reading skills is a challenge for all families and the Library's summer reading program aims to be part of the solution! The organic and locally farmed dinner paired with Sobon Estate wines, topped the evening with culinary satisfaction! A special thank you goes out to the authors who helped make the live auction better than ever! Thank you to Donna Apidone, Anthony Barcellos, Todd Borg, Patricia Bracewell, William Burg, Elaine Corn, Joey Garcia, Peter Hecht, Josie Iselin, R. Franklin James, Laura Kenny, Meera Klein, Julia Levine, Brenda Nakamoto, Joanne Neff, Gayle Pitman, Barbara Rhine, Hank Shaw, Linda Joy Singleton, Susan Spann, Talia Vance and Maureen O'Leary Wanket. The combined professionalism of Beth, Pat, Handler, the authors at tables, and the hotel team behind the scenes made this year's Authors on the Move a memorable and gratifying evening for all! Thank you to all of our donors who took part in this year's Authors on the Move. We really appreciate your support!
