President of the Sacramento Kings Chris Granger and wife Jennifer Granger opened up their home to more than 150 guests Friday night, along with co-hosts Raley's Michael and Julie Teel, to share information about Make-A-Wish® and the impact a wish makes for a child battling a life-threatening illness. The guests heard from local wish recipient, Yeshua, 5 who had his wish granted to go to Hawaii, and his mother Nicole who shared about their wish experience. The guests were then invited to donate in support of additional local wishes. Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada is one of the earliest chapters. They have granted more than 6,000 wishes since it began in 1983. The chapter grants an average of 275 wishes each year to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps 20th annual Breakfast on the River was on June 2nd at Scott's Seafood Restaurant. The mission of the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) is to enrich the lives of young adults by providing a development program integrating education, job skills training and work experience on conservation projects and service opportunities that benefit the region and our corpsmembers.
Sacramento's preeminent environmental awards on May 31st at the Natomas Farm Bureau. The awards honor the people and projects that have done great things for our region's urban forest, and support the programs of the Sacramento Tree Foundation. This annual event hosts 200-300 attendees, including leaders of Sacramento's most influential businesses, national and state elected officials, and tree lovers from around the region.
The Salvation Army honored the Sacramento Republic FC with the Spirit of Caring award during its 26th Annual Community Luncheon on May 30. The award was recognition of Republic FC's extensive community service work and philanthropy, including the creation of the Glory Glory Sacramento Fund and its commitment to make Sacramento a better place to live, work and play. In collaboration with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, the fund distributed nearly $280,000 to 15 local charities through grants of $20,000 or less to help improve the health, education and lives of children in Sacramento neighborhoods in addition to bringing awareness to these charities with its fans and visits by the team's players. The Annual Community Luncheon was also an opportunity to showcase local Salvation Army programs, give a fiscal and service report to the community, and thank and recognize the individuals and companies who, through their community service activities or programs, have shown a long history of helping people in need. This year's luncheon grossed more than $230,000 in proceeds to support local Salvation Army programs and services year-round.

My Sister's House hosted its 16th Anniversary Gala was held at the Crest Theatre on May 15, 2017 with 500+ supporters. This year's theme "Sweet 16" reflected My Sister's House sixteen years of preventing and addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Local celebrities and community leaders took take the stage to perform songs and special dances made famous by popular artists. The event raised more than $80,000 for My Sister's House, a non-profit organization that provides culturally responsive services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
