Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center "HOPE THRIVES HERE" Celebration

The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center held its Second Annual Hope Thrives Here Celebration with more than 400 community leaders and community members in attendance at Sacramento State on November 18, 2017. Proceeds support the Center's collaborative work with victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, human trafficking, sexual assault and child abuse. Open for just 16 months, the Family Justice Center has served over 1,500 individuals and families in our region.

City of Sacramento Innovate Sac Conference

On Wednesday, November 15, during Global Entrepreneurship Week, Sacramento State hosted The City of Sacramento's Innovate Sac conference. 150 people turned out to explore the exhibits of regional innovators and also hear from civic leaders and technology thought-leaders about how we can leverage emerging technologies to transform Sacramento into an innovation hub. The primary purpose of the event was to launch the Sacramento Urban Technology Lab. SUTL is a vision from the City of Sacramento's Mayor's Office for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of government, academia and industry collaborating to transform Sacramento into a living laboratory for entrepreneurs, advanced technology businesses, and academic institutions to test, develop, and scale their ideas, products, and services. Speakers included Robert Nelsen, president of Sacramento State, Darrell Steinberg, mayor of, the City of Sacramento, Keynote Aaron Frank from Singularity University, Austin Brown, the executive director for the UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment, and the Economy, and Louis Steward, Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Sacramento.

American Leadership Forum Exemplary Leaders Awards Dinner

The American Leadership Forum's Exemplary Leaders Awards Dinner was on November 15th, downtown Sacramento, at the Memorial Auditorium. Honorees: Basim Elkarra, Executive Director, Council on American-Islamic Relations Lial Jones, CEO and the Mort and Marcy Friedman Director, Crocker Art Museum Patrick Mulvaney. Restaurateur, Mulvaney's B&L Funds raised by the dinner will be used to provide scholarships to ensure diverse representation from communities across the region in ALF's programs. Since 1981, the American Leadership Forum (ALF), a national non-profit organization, has dedicated its work to revitalizing leadership within communities across the nation.

Make-A-Wish Annual Breakfast to Grant Wishes to Children

Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada hosted their annual Wake Up For Wishes breakfast at the Sacramento Convention Center on Wednesday, November 8 to thank supporters and highlight four wishes that they granted this year. At the event they surprised two local children in big ways. Samuel, four, who battles kidney cancer, learned from retired Astronaut Stephen Robison that his wish to see a 'real' spaceship was coming true in January! Samuel's wish is sponsored by the chapter founder and local business man Frank Ramos. The second child that was surprised was Dominic, 15, who battles bone cancer. His wish was granted last month to give out Thank You awards to many who helped him through the difficult journey of fighting cancer. One of the people Dominic had wished to be at his Night of Gratitude was his grandmother, Amy, from Texas. So Make-A-Wish flew her out to surprise him on stage at the breakfast. His wish was sponsored by Five Star Bank and was enhanced by Shutterfly.

Association of Fundraising Professionals California Capitol Chapter hosted National Philanthropy Day (NPD) on Wednesday, November 8 at the Hyatt in Sacramento. NPD is a grassroots movement to increase public interest and awareness of the importance of philanthropy, as well as knowledge on giving, volunteering and engagement at the charitable level so people can practice effective philanthropy. State of Sacramento County Address

On November 3rd the State of Sacramento County was presented by Sacramento County, a Metro Chamber production at the Sheraton Grand Hotel. Guest speaker was John Kirby, Vice President, Capacity Planning, Alaska Airlines. As the economic epicenter for the six-county region, Sacramento County plays a vital role in the region's overall well-being and is the ideal place for businesses to grow, employees to thrive and visitors to taste and explore. The Sacramento Metro Chamber is pleased to partner with Sacramento County to present this year?s premier forum focused on the state of the County and exciting efforts as the region soars to new heights.
