Habitat for Humanity Hard Hats and High Heels Gala and Fundraiser

On September 14th the annual Hard Hats and High Heels with theme of this year's Gala "#BuildLouder" – the event was at the State Capitol grounds to build funds and awareness to help Habitat combat the current housing crisis in our community, as well as generating greater advocacy awareness for the Prop 1 campaign which is a $4 billion bond measure for Veterans and Affordable Housing which is on the CA ballot this November. This is the first ever charity Gala ever to be held on the grounds of the State Capitol

Sacramento Asian Peace Officer Association Service Award Banquet

The Sacramento Asian Peace Officers Association held the 25th annual Community Service Awards Banquet and fundraiser at Happy Garden Seafood Restaurant on August 31st. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Asian Peace Officers Associations Youth Outreach Programs, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento and other community enrichment programs. Honorees: Mahmud Sharif, founder and owner of Sharif Jewelers, Community Service Award Harvey Woo, Lieutenant, California State University Sacramento Police Department, received the Kinya Noguchi Award.

Make-A-Wish Walk for Wishes at the State Capitol

On Aug 18, Make-A-Wish hosted their 19th annual Walk For Wishes event at the State Capitol. More than 800 wish families, volunteers, and supporters came out dressed as superheroes to walk to walk the 1 or 3-mile route in support of the mission: to create life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses. Thanks to the support of our local community, all funds raised at the Walk are going to grant wishes of children in our community.

On August 18th, Neighbor Works Annual Art, Wine & Food Classic Fundraiser was held at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria. Founded by a small group of residents who wanted to improve their distressed neighborhood, Sacramento Neighborhood Housing Services was created in 1987. Now doing business as NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center Sacramento Region (NeighborWorks® Sacramento), the organization has changed and grown, but the heart of its mission remains the same. Initially, Sacramento Neighborhood Housing Services served just four neighborhoods in Sacramento. Today, NeighborWorks® Sacramento serves an 11-county region from two offices, and its program offerings include a full range of services to assist potential and current homeowners. The mission is to "provide opportunities for successful homeownership and strong communities through quality education, affordable lending, supportive partnership and dedicated leadership."
