Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be a meteorologist. When I was a child, I was afraid of "bad" weather. I spent my summers in Louisiana where wicked thunderstorms would roll through. I didn't like the "sparkle" of lighting nor the "boom" of thunder. While driving from my grandmother's home to my great-grandparents home, I would crouch down on the floorboard of our sunshine yellow 1976 Chrysler, trying to hide from the lightning.
Perhaps the way for me to overcome that fear has been forecasting weather in the Central Valley for more than two decades. Now, I find weather patterns to be one of the most intricate and marvelous phenomena of nature.
Eleven years after getting a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from California State University, Dominguez Hills, I decided to study meteorology. For two years, I commuted everyday from Sacramento to San Francisco State University and completed a broadcast meteorology program.
Since being in the Sacramento region since 1996, I have developed great relationships with organizations that want to improve the lives of children. I served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento. I also worked with the young people at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Youth Summit. I want to empower young people with the confidence that they can achieve their goals as long as they work hard, stay focused, and stay persistent.
When I'm not busy with your forecasts, I love spending time with my three boys. We enjoy playing board games, camping, and exploring.
