Yuba City Volunteers Removing Gang Graffiti Attacked With Rocks
YUBA CITY (CBS13) — Volunteers trying to clean up a veterans memorial were attacked by suspects who threatened to shoot the good Samaritans removing gang graffiti.
Charles Ford is a no-nonsense kind of guy who comes from a proud family of veterans.
"I just wish they'd grow up and respect the veterans a little more.
So to him, seeing gang graffiti on a memorial for veterans is a disrespectful disgrace.
Charles has pledged to keep the vets memorials in Marysville and Yuba City clean.
He, he fiancee and their son, Teigan, were part of the group, Yuba-Sutter Volunteers, that were cleaning up Yuba City's Veterans Park.
While scrubbing away gang signs left on the memorial, Charles says he told two men on their bikes to be careful crossing the busy street.
"Next thing I know, they're jumping off their bikes and cussing at us."
But it didn't end there. If you can believe it, these guys came all the way on on the bridge to grab rocks—they were actually throwing rocks at the volunteers cleaning up graffiti in the park.
"They were throwing good size rocks, too, like fist-size rocks."
Thankfully nobody got hit with a rock, but Charles says the men even threatened to go get a gun and shoot the volunteers. Eventually they pedalled off on their bikes. If the cops catch them, they'll be charged with assault.
Unfazed, not intimidated in the least, Charles says he and his group won't be pushed around.
"I'm not gonna tolerate it, and neither are my volunteers. We have a good group, and we take pride in what we do."
The group plans to return to the park this weekend to remove the rest of the paint that soaked into the granite. They're also holding a walk on Sept. 7.
