Yuba City Thieves Steal Safe Full Of Gold Through Store Next Door
YUBA CITY (CBS13) — A gold heist in Yuba City was well thought out and planned perfectly, allowing the thieves to make off with reportedly hundreds of thousands of dollars in gold.
Imagine showing up for work, you look up and see a hole in the ceiling, and then you walk down your aisle, and you find a gigantic hole in the side of your wall.
Hillcrest Hobbies owner Bill Terbush said he was shocked and surprised to see just that.
"Somebody knew exactly what they were doing."
He says thieves got on the roof, cut a hole in his ceiling and climbed into the store. But his store wasn't the target. Instead it was the business next door, Nurmahal Jewelers.
"They knew the layout of that place well enough. They knew my place well enough.
The thieves even got into the safe, cutting through 4 inches of steel and concrete.
He says the hole was just big enough for someone to slip their hand inside and pull off a theft of several hundred thousand dollars of Indian gold.
Terbush said the damage to his store was less than $100, with nothing taken from Hillcrest Hobbies.
