Yuba City Man Sentenced To Life For Murdering Wife
WOODLAND (CBS13) -- Ignacio Favela Mendoza, a 41-year-old Yuba City man, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Thursday afternoon for the murder of his wife, according to District Attorney Jeff Reisig.
Yolo County Superior Court Judge David Rosenberg handed down the sentence. A Yolo County jury convicted Mendoza on Aug. 11 of first-degree murder.
Mendoza went to an orchard outside of Zamora in Yolo County in May 2007 and approached his wife with a shotgun drawn and demanded that she get in the car with him. A fellow worker tried to calm Mendoza, but Mendoza fired one shot from four that killed his wife after she refused to get in the car. Mendoza fled the scene and traveled to Mexico.
Yolo County Sheriff's deputies working with the FBI developed leads to locate Mendoza in Mexico. An international warrant was issued in December 2007 and Mendoza was arrested in Mexico on April 1, 2010. Mendoza was brought back to Yolo County in October 2010.
