Yolo County Woman's Dogs Seized After Online Ads Describe Them As Part Wolf
YOLO COUNTY (CBS13) — A Yolo County woman's dogs were seized after online ads described the pets as part wolf.
Shandal White now has one dog back home.
"My dogs were all happy, healthy, well cared for, well loved," she said.
But her others will never be back after Yolo county supervisors ruled they are all wolf-hybrids that are illegal in the county, and unsafe to raise at her own home.
She disputes the findings.
"They were all dog mixes of huskies, shepherds, Alaskan malamutes," she said.
Supervisors ruled the dogs are wolf-hybrids using a UC Davis DNA test, and advertisements on Facebook and Craigslist that show White's animals for sale, described as wolf-hybrids, fetching up to $1,800 each.
White claims a friend posted the ads without her knowing.
Yolo County Board of Supervisors chair Matt Rexroad says the DNA test was the most compelling evidence. In his years on the board, the vote was a first.
"One of the scariest parts of the hearing was when the appellant told us that her fencing was questionable," he said. "And she wasn't able to hold the animals inside. We don't need wolves running around the streets of esparto. That's not safe for anyone."
