WWE Wrestler Accused Of Hitting Fan During Show At Power Balance Pavilion
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A fan got punched by a wrestler named CM Punk at Power Balance Pavillion on Monday night.
The incident happened during WWE "Monday Night Raw." Wrestler CM Punk , whose real name is Phil Brooks, went into the stands amid scores of booing fans. He turned around on the stairs and faced the ring, where he had just wrestled his boss, Vince McMahon. One young fan pushed the wrestler, who turned around and glared at the boy.
The video posted to YouTube shows the moment WWE fans all over the world are talking about, where professional wrestler CM Punk runs into the crowd.
First he backhands a fan, then he smacks him in the jaw.
That fan is Charles Schmidt. CBS13's Laura Cole, who attended the event as a fan, tracked him down outside security after the show.
"Next thing you know he comes at me pops me and my glasses go flying and i go down to the ground," Schmidt said.
The video shows some fans heckling the superstar, then you see Schmidt right behind him.
"Did you touch him at all?" Cole asked Schmidt.
"No, not at all," he said. "I didn't see anybody touch him, but there were a rush of people."
The video shows what appears to be Schmidt touching the back of CM Punk's head. But a closer look shows the hand of another person actually touches the wrestler's head just before the blows.
Schmidt took some photos after the incident. You can't really see any bruises, but he claims the confrontation broke his glasses.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department took a report but said there won't be an investigation because the fan didn't want to press charges and didn't appear to be injured.
The WWE did release a statement saying, "WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment."
Schmidt says he is a little upset with Punk, but really he's just shocked about how his night of entertainment ended with him getting smacked on live TV.
Schmidt said he is considering hiring an attorney for a possible lawsuit.
