Wrong-Way DUI Driver Sentenced To 14 Years In Sacramento Crash That Killed 3 Teens
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a deadly wrong-way DUI crash that claimed the lives of three teenagers in January.
Aaron Caudillo, 24, was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 80 when hit hit a vehicle carrying three teenagers near Madison Avenue.
The crash claimed the lives of Matt Azar, Kendra Langham and Matthew Beardwitt. Caudillo was the only survivor of the crash.
The January crash was the first of a series of wrong-way crashes in the first half of the year that prompted calls for a warning system to alert drivers of wrong-way drivers.
- In April, a wrong-way driver traveled more than five miles in the wrong direction on Highway 50 before crashing into a truck, killing all four people involved. The 19-year-old driver, Elizabet Torres-Zela had a blood-alcohol level of .20.
- In early May a mother and her two daughters were among the four dead in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 505 in Arbuckle.
- On May 12, a driver in a Ford F-150 truck without license plates struck a Lexus head-on in the fast lane of Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue.
