Work Around Yosemite Lake To Begin This Summer

   YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) -- A Yosemite National Park lake is getting some additional protection from the thousands who visit its shores each summer.

   The San Francisco Chronicle reports that crews will begin building a new trail and improving wetlands around Tenaya Lake this summer.

   The work is the first phase of a project aimed in part at minimizing the impact of visitors to the lake.

   The new trail will go to the lake's East Beach. It will replace the current path to the beach, which goes through a wetlands area.

   Additionally, park officials say native willows will be planted and the wetlands and riparian areas near the beach restored.

   The lake sits at an elevation of 8,150 feet off Tioga Pass Road. It receives hundreds of thousands of visitors each summer.
