Woodland Officer Injured After Bike Stop Turns Into Fight
WOODLAND (CBS13) - A Woodland officer was injured when a fight broke out after stopping a bicyclist Saturday morning.
Around 12:44 a.m., a Woodland officer with a K-9 stopped 44-year-old bicyclist Reggie Dickerson in the 100 block of West Main Street for riding his bike on the sidewalk and not having a functioning light.
During the stop, the officer learned Dickerson, a transient from Sacramento County, was recently released from prison and on searchable probation for grand theft. While searching the suspect, the officer felt an object believed to be contraband in Dickerson's shirt. When the officer tried to retrieve the object, Dickerson spun his body away, almost causing the officer to fall to the ground.
As the officer attempted to regain control, the suspect repeatedly elbowed him. The altercation sent both Dickerson and the officer into the roadway, where Dickerson would throw the suspected glass pipe into the roadway.
The officer eventually released his canine on Dickerson, who was subdued after being bit on the left arm.
The arresting officer sustained a serious but non life threatening injury to his hand and minor scrapes on his body. Dickerson was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained to his left arm.
Dickerson was booked into Yolo County Jail for felony charges of resisting an officer by using force, injuring an officer, and a violation of probation. He is being held without bail.
