Woman Walking With 2-Year-Old Son Hit, Killed By Man Driving Drunk
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities say that a woman out walking with her young son was killed by a man driving drunk late Thursday afternoon.
According to California Highway Patrol investigators, the woman and her 2-year-old son were walking on the north sidewalk of 47th Avenue, near Kiessig Avenue, a little before 6 p.m. when a car drifted off the roadway and hit the woman.
The woman, who has not been identified, was later taken to the hospital but died from her injuries. Her son was not injured in the incident.
Investigators say that the suspect driver – 27-year-old Tococh Fidel – lost control of his car after hitting the woman and eventually crashed into an electrical pole and another car in the eastbound lane of 47th Avenue. A third car then rear-ended the car that Fidel hit.
CHP says Fidel drove away from the scene in his car, but the driver of the first car hit followed him.
Eventually, Fidel was stopped by Sacramento Police near Florin Road and Amherst Drive. Authorities say that he failed a sobriety test and showed obvious signs that he was drunk. Fidel was then arrested.
Fidel was booked at Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license.
CHP investigators are asking anyone else who may have seen the crash to call them at (916) 681-2300.
