Woman Taken Hostage During Stockton Bank Robbery Files Claim Against City
STOCKTON (CBS13) - One of the three women taken hostage during a Stockton bank robbery last year has filed a claim against the city and police department.
An attorney representing hostage Kelly Huber filed the claim saying police violated procedure when they interrupted the robbery. Alleged violations include officers engaging the gunmen while Huber was still being held by the suspects, not having a plan to contain the suspects or communicate with them, and ultimately causing the chase that ended in gunfire.
Huber says she suffered a bullet wound to each leg, broken bones in her legs and disability from those injuries, emotional distress and disfigurement. She is asking for $500,000, saying that the amount could vary up or down depending on future circumstances.
Huber was one of three women taken hostage in the July 17 bank robbery, which led to a high-speed chase and deadly shootout.
Misty Holt-Singh was killed by police gunfire.
