Woman Just Released From Jail Steals Truck, Leads Officers On Chase

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A woman is back in jail after she took police on a slow-speed chase around Sacramento that lasted more than an hour.

Video captured by witness Marcos Tapia captured the suspect – identified by authorities as Tina Ross – behind the wheel of a communications truck, leading police down Florin Road. That's after Sacramento police had already used spike strips several times to blow out the truck's tires.

The chase ended at Florin Road and Stockton Boulevard.

California Highway Patrol says Ross had just been released from the jail downtown around 1 a.m. Friday when she hopped into the truck at a nearby construction site.

A crew had to keep it running to do their work.

"As they were in the manhole, the suspect jumped in the vehicle and took off," said Sgt. Alison Buschey with CHP. "She'll be going back to Sacramento County Jail."

Police say Ross told them she got in the truck because she was cold. It is unclear why she had been in jail in the first place.
