Woman Infected With Zika Virus Delivers Healthy Baby
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Health officials say a Salt Lake County woman infected with the Zika virus has given birth to a healthy baby boy.
The Salt Lake County Health Department said Friday that the woman gave birth last month and the infant tested negative for the virus.
The agency says the woman had visited an area of the world where the Zika virus has been actively transmitted.
State health officials confirmed a child between ages 2 and 10 as the first case of the virus in Utah last month.
Zika is spread primarily through bites from a specific mosquito not found in Utah.
Health officials are investigating whether there is a link between Zika infections in pregnant women and a rare birth defect called microcephaly.
