Woman Hit By Pellet Gun In Modesto Drive-By Shooting Spree
MODESTO (CBS13) — A woman in a wheelchair was shot with a pellet gun. Police say she was one of at least four people hit in a drive by shooting spree Wednesday afternoon.
"This kid was acting like it was a game. He was just going around and shooting people," said Deon Williams who saw his friend get hit.
They were near Mellis Park on Martin Luther King Drive when a car pulled up. Williams said the driver fired more than a dozen shots.
"It had to be kid because who shoots someone with a BB gun and thinks that there's not going to be any repercussions," said Williams.
It was just one of several locations hit in and around downtown Modesto. A woman in a wheelchair was at a local market when she was shot twice by the drive by shooter.
"He has to have a mom and aunt and grandmother right? That's where I draw the line. I have no respect for this cat if I knew who it was I would tell on," said Deon.
Investigators confirmed at least fiur people were shot from Pine Street to O and H streets near 9th and 10th.
"It's definitely a little nerve-racking and I wonder if I should even be here now," said Brett Pershall while walking to the movie theater.
As a parent with young kids, Pershall wants to keep them safe, but said they can't live in fear.
"I mean we got to keep them close in and show up and pay attention to what's going on in your surroundings and that's about all you can do," Pershall said.
The family of the woman in the wheelchair said she was hit in the ear and leg.
"I wish I could've done more because the lady that got shot didn't deserve to get shot she was just so her get some fresh air and she has to worry about getting shot that's crazy," said Williams.
Police confirmed the victims are all ok and didn't suffer any life threatening injuries.
As for the suspect, investigators are looking for a man in his 20s in a dark colored two-door sedan.
Anyone with information should call the Modesto Police Department.
