Woman, Dog Die After Broadside Crash In South Sacramento; DUI Suspect Arrested
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A woman and dog are dead after their car is broadsided by an oncoming truck in south Sacramento.
"He got out like nothing was wrong and I told him, 'Hey man you just killed these people,'" said Junior, who witnessed the aftermath.
It happened around midnight on the 6000 block of Orange Avenue, off of Stockton Boulevard.
California Highway Patrol says a 60-year-old man was pulling out of his driveway when a truck slammed into his car.
The impact killed a 63-year-old woman and dog riding inside the car and sent the driver to the hospital with major injuries.
"I ran outside barefoot and all through the glass managed to not cut my feet and I checked her pulse and I knew. It was horrible," said Maureen Cline, who is friends with the couple.
Officers say the driver of the truck, 49-year-old Sacramento resident Eloy Tapia, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Tapia is facing charges of DUI causing major injury or death and vehicular manslaughter.
The CHP says just this year alone, five crashes have happened in this area.
People who live on Orange Avenue just want people to drive safer.
"I'm afraid one of these days one of these kids are going to be outside playing and they are going to go right into their yard or something," said Barbara Leonard.
