Woman, Child Identified In Fatal Interstate 80 Crash
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified the woman and child killed in a crash along westbound Interstate 80 as two Southern California residents.
Encino resident Tricia Carrie Sears, 40, and West Hills resident Skylar Eubanks, 4, were in the red Nissan Pathfinder that crashed into a tree just west of Madison Avenue around 2 p.m. Thursday. Sears was pronounced dead at the scene and Eubanks soon died from injuries due to the force of the impact, according to California Highway Patrol.
The older female child also in the car has been identified as Faith Eubanks. She is listed in critical condition, according to a UC Davis Medical Center official.
CHP said that an off-duty officer spotted the Nissan moving at a high rate of speed and erratically on I-80. The officer called it in on the radio inside the car and followed the Nissan. The officer's car had no lights or sirens, so it's not considered an official chase.
